We are looking for an indivdiual to be based in the Netherlands (Amsterdam) on a full time permanent basis. This will be to work with a luxury River Cruise company that are generating a lot of interest/excitement within the industry at the moment. 

Im looking for someone that is responsible for the Safety Management Systems (SMS). Provide support for SMS auditing, Ships safety program, Ships safety and Marine related training programs & environmental management program. 

The position reports into the Director of Marine Operations. 

Roles & Responsibilities:-

  1. Improve & implement Safety Management System (SMS) for River Ship Operations. 
    1. Write and edit management system manuals and directives using input and subject matter from river industry experts. 
    2. Maintain Electronic documentation accessible to all ships and office of all manuals, directives and related work lists. 
    3. Maintain necessary paper files and records. 
  2. Auditing. 
    1. Assist in scheduling of internal/external audits for SMS.
    2. Prepare checklists for internal audits.
    3. Serve an internal audit team member as required.
    4. Maintain audit recors and electronic task lists.
    5. Routinely audit filing systems onboard vessels for all relevant data being organised and easily accesible. 
  3. Drug and Alcohol Program Mgr. 
    1. Manage and ensure the drug & alcohol testing program is followed by ships officers and crew. 
    2. Maintain drug & alchohol test records.
  4. Safety
    1. Maintain safety related reference materials.
    2. Develop and maintain expertise regarding various shipboard hazards and use of personnel protective equipment. 
    3. Arrange and/or conduct periodic ship safety audits.
    4. Receive, file and distribute all Vessel event reports to the appropriate parties.
    5. Follow up on corrective actions taken in response to VER's and ensure that they are meeting planned goals.
  5. Training.
    1. Develop training course materials on safety, SMS, Environmental and related topics for presentation by ships personnel or others. 
    2. Serve as a triner for ships officers and crew periodically on subject of expertise including safety, PPE, SMS and related topics. 
    3. Maintain SMES training manual and make changes when needed.
    4. Maintain training records as necessary at CCI.
  6. DPA.
    1. Act as a designated person ashore and support shipboard crew when needed with high level HR related issues.

Educational Background required: 

B.S or B.A. Degree is preferred or some college credits with at least 5 years of experience in the field. 

Familiarity and experience with international standards ISM Code, STCW, SOLAS 14001, IMDG Code and U.S. regulations for OSHA health and Safety (29 CFR) and EPA environmental (40 CFR) and DOT transportation of Hazardous Material and Waste.

Language Requirements

Good knowledge of the English language is required.
