General Job Description


We have an exciting new opportunity for a Technical Operations Superintendent to join our well-established client in Bahrain.  The successful candidate will have responsibility for all aspects of the operation of a large barge & tug, and will control all Engineering, Safe Operation, Class Compliance, Crewing etc. and will ensure efficient operation of the marine operation.  

Our Client

Our client based in Bahrain has been trading since 2008 and is responsible for transporting up to 1 million tonnes of bulk raw materials per annum.  

The Successful Applicant

  • Good organisation and communication skills
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)
  • Class 1 Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency preferred
  • Familiar with, and experience of, ISM and ISPS. DPA qualified preferred
  • Maritime experience preferred, preferably a mature ex-oceangoing Marine Engineer with over 10 years of working experience in an International and National environment
  • Conversant in planning and scheduling effective maintenance
  • Demonstrates strong analytical problem solving

Job Description

  • Maintenance of Licence and Class
  • Ensure vessel classification and port state rules and regulations are in compliance. Working closely with the representatives from various classification societies and governing agencies which regulate the operation of our ships.

Crew

  • Motivate ships personnel and encourage efficiency, teamwork, improvement and safety consciousness
  • Recruitment and coordination of leave to ensure that minimum safe manning levels are maintained at all times
  • Shore based crew support (Salaries, Medical, Flight arrangements etc.)

Engineering Control

  • Overseeing vessel technical matters, preparation of repairs and dry-docking specifications and monitoring of all repairs afloat and in dry-dock. Special Survey planning and preparation.
  • Selection and installation of machinery, equipment, and safety appliances to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, company safety, and environmental policy
  • Co-ordinate and plan with ships' Chief Engineer on all aspects of maintenance
  • Ensure all equipment and onboard procedures are in compliance with applicable regulations, class requirements and company policy

Parts & Stores Ordering

  • Purchasing of spares including the sourcing of critical parts, ensuring that the most competitive prices are obtained (purchase authority lies with the Company Manager)
  • Monitoring of spare parts inventory
  • Purchasing stores and consumables as and when required
  • Arranging bunkering, fresh water, lubes and stores as required

Ship Inspections

  • Undertake regular ship inspection including staff quarters
  • Supporting periodical safety inspections focusing on compliance with ISM and ISPS
  • Checking fuel and lubricant stock at the end of each trip and reconciling usage

Trip Logistics

  • Trip planning including forward notices to Ras Al Khaimah and Bahrain.
  • Monitor the efficiency of the ship in cooperation with the ships' Captain, including analysis of turnaround times in order to reduce delays.
  • Monitoring of fuel and lubricant usage to optimize vessel efficiency, including the forward planning of fuel and lubricant orders.
  • Coordination of vessel docking and undocking, including the organization of agents, customs, immigration, pilots and assist tugs as required.
  • Supervising the unloading of cargo and ensuring the ramp crane is ordered, to ensure that delays are minimized, liaising with the unloading contractor at all times.
  • Submission of detailed report following each trip to the Company Manager.
  • Ensure that incidents, accidents, failures and damages are properly investigated and reported.
