General Job Description

Provides expert knowledge, operational advice and overarching support to the Fleet teams afloat and ashore on all marine related aspects to ensure continuous readiness and customer acceptability of the vessels. This position will support all vessel types, the ship teams, and other Standards and Policies functions.   The role requires engagement with Customers and external bodies as well as various personnel, ashore and afloat, other Business Units etc.  The role is wide ranging covering operational best practices, developing and implementing operational philosophies and vessel performance systems through to business development activities related to the company’s growth plans.

Job Description

  • Support the safe operation of the fleet, as per Statutory, International and local regulations, as well as Industry best practices
  • Work closely with all members of the fleet, ship and shore, to monitor and enhance operational performance
  • Develop and maintain relationships with strategic vendors and other industry professionals
  • Participate in the development of junior staff by active mentoring/coaching
  • Ensure cost leadership practices are embedded in research and solutions
  • Participate in budget preparation, lifecycle and new business projections
  • Responsible for ensuring operational support, and driving safety standards in all aspects of Marine Operations including but not limited to navigation, cargo and mooring operations, providing expert knowledge and operational advice where required
  • Undertake port and terminal compatibility studies, Due Diligence and Safe Port Assessments as required
  • Provide support in completion of port and terminal studies to ensure compatibility and safety of vessels, calling their assigned ports are completed
  • Provide marine and commercial expertise to support business development including evaluation of traditional as well as emerging related industry opportunities
  • Provide marine and commercial expertise in evaluating new building specifications, ensuring design optimized for both Capital Expenditure and ongoing OPEX
  • Monitor legislation, research, develop and project manage Fleet specific solutions
  • Liaise with customers, industry peers, Authorities, Class, charterers, agents, service providers, stakeholders and other involved parties as related to Marine Commercial Operations. Represent the Company at ship/shore interface meetings and customer forums when required
  • Maintain oversight and management of Marine Operating procedures within the SMS, completing MoC’s as required to amend procedures
  • Carry out inspections, audits and incident investigations of ships as directed by, Marine and Commercial Manager. Establish cause and recommend corrective action where necessary
  • Participate in the company’s emergency response team as required
  • The Operational interface with external Customers will normally be handled by the Operations team but for such matters as terminal compatibilities the Marine and Commercial Manager and Superintendent will be required to respond to feedback from customers to ensure consistent delivery of first class service and proactive resolution of any issues
