Based in the City of London The Shipowners’ Protection Ltd are the Managers of the Shipowners’ Mutual Protection and Indemnity (P & I) Association, a Luxembourg based Protection and Indemnity Club. With over a century and a half of expertise in providing P&I insurance cover for smaller and more specialised vessels, Shipowners' is one of the oldest P&I Clubs in the world.

 We are now seeking an ambitious and hard working Loss Prevention Executive to join our friendly and professional Loss Prevention team.   The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and a quick learner with a desire to develop or continue their career in Loss Prevention. 

Overall Purpose of the role:

To assist with the implementation of the Club’s Loss Prevention initiatives, including the Ship Inspection Programme and providing technical advice to Members, Brokers and internal departments.

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Primarily to manage and ensure the efficient running of the Ship Inspection programme, in liaison with the Loss Prevention Deputy Manager - Singapore, particularly in relation to surveys being carried out in the near geographical area dealt with out of the London Branch. In addition to ensure the survey programme operates in a financially efficient way.
  2. To assist with identifying, developing and executing the Club’s overall Loss Prevention programme and material.
  3. To efficiently manage loss prevention projects as required. This may include performing presentations, crew training or leading internal reviews of highlighted risk areas etc.
  4. To assist with the causation analysis of Claims. This includes the monitoring of internal notification emails to identify issues and the subsequent liaison with the Claims and Underwriting Dept as necessary including but not limited to; analysis of claims for causation, claims trend analysis and follow-up to include devising appropriate loss prevention initiatives such as liaising with and making presentations to Members and their crew and writing loss prevention publications.
  5. To develop and maintain good working relationships with Members, surveyors and brokers as required.
  6. To produce accurate quality reporting and analysis to serve the needs of internal departments and that of Members and brokers.
  7. To provide a high level of service through timely and accurate response to internal and external enquiries received by telephone or email.
  8. To assist the Director - Loss Prevention and the Loss Prevention Manager - Singapore with Management Audits and to undertake any other projects or tasks that may arise from time to time.
  9. To provide expert technical advice on marine related issues to internal departments where required.
  10. To develop the skills and knowledge required for the effective performance of the role by participating in and actively contributing to training and development activities.
  11. Develop external relationships and knowledge by attending relevant industry seminars and committees as agreed by the Director – Loss Prevention.

Experience Required:

  • 2nd Mate (navigational side) or above
  • Experience in a  shore side role
  • Experience of cargo, offshore and tankers vessel. Not just passenger vessels.
  • Effective use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
