Their fleet of luxury vessels range in size from intimately carrying 700 passengers, exclusively adult ships to 3100 passengers, catering for all ages, tailoring their service to all of their customers’ needs.
An exciting opportunity has now arisen as an On-Board HR Manager to work on one of our client’s large cruise liners, travel the world, whilst getting paid. The position is offered on a 3 month renewable contract but in reality, can be considered a permanent role.
Join our Client as an On-board HR Manager and you’ll go far too, as you lead an efficient, high quality and customer-focused HR service. Here, you’ll provide an effective HR Business Partnering service on-board which is pragmatic, commercial, solution focused and provides a professional HR Service to the ship.
This role will share clear accountability as part of the senior management team in delivery of balanced scorecard and other business priorities.
You will work collaboratively with the on-board teams and other HR colleagues, across the fleet, in supporting and driving Company and HR strategy, cultural change and associated leadership development.
As the On-board HR Manager, you will have extensive ER experience supporting the on-board management team with any queries and/or cases on-board.
You will take the lead for ensuring the appropriate development and coaching of Senior Officers on-board with regards to people management and employment legislation.
In addition, you will work collaboratively with the on-board management teams and Fleet Resourcing team to support and oversee the promotions process, interviews, selection and succession planning through individual development plans.
In conjunction with the Ships Company on-board you will be responsible for employee engagement whilst feeding back any issues to the senior management team and working together to implement any required changes.
You will manage a small HR team which has overall responsibility for all ships company administration and you will manage the On-board Trainer to provide suitable and relevant training for the on-board ship team.
As the HR Manager, you will chair the welfare committee and play an active role in developing the Safety culture on-board.
In addition to your professional duties you will also have to deliver staff training and have ship safety duties and responsibilities.

Knowledge and Skills:
In order to be successful within this role you will be a self-starter, an HR Generalist with a strong drive to take accountability for your own work. You will be recognised by others as having excellent interpersonal skills, highly resilient and calm under pressure, socially confident, decisive and flexible.
You will be CIPD qualified, commercially aware and able to build strong and credible relationships.
Experience of working in the cruise line sector would be highly advantageous.
You should be an enthusiastic advocate and promoter of excellence in HR strategy and practice, investing in your own and others’ knowledge and continuing professional development, and able to act as a Subject Matter Expert.
You should be highly culturally sensitive, able to work well with people from all backgrounds and ethnicities, and encourages others to do the same.
You should be sensitive to the priorities and difficulties faced by other departments, able to work effectively with them to ensure that HR practices and initiatives are pragmatic and reap benefits for operations.
You should be a clear, articulate and honest communicator, able to give unambiguous verbal instructions and reports, and able to produce easily understood written documents.
You should be highly resilient able to remain calm under pressure, maintaining focus and energy levels even under sustained pressure or when having to implement unpopular change, dealing with disputes, or giving difficult messages.
You should possess excellent interpersonal and people skills, capable of motivating, mediating, coaching, facilitating and training others towards excellent standards of management practice and customer service.
You should have an excellent command of the English language – advanced. If English is not your first language you will have to take the Marlins test.
You should be PC literate, competent in the use of MS Office.
Superb inter-personal skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
