A well established shipping company is looking for an Operations Manager for their growing team in Limassol. This position is critical to the management team and reports directly to the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that the Company’s Fleet is always effectively operated in accordance with the company’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Being member of the management team promptly and accurately informed about ships operational status.
  • Monitoring and following up of the ship’s voyages giving to the Master the necessary orders concerning future movements.
  • Arranging for the renewal of COFRs, CLC and P&I Entries Certificates
  • Preparing freight/demurrages invoices to be mutually approved by the Operations/Commercial Managers
  • Ensuring that the operation of Company’s vessels meets the requirements/standards imposed by the Owners and Charterers
  • Monitoring all ship management functions including manning agents, supervision of vessels and insurance claims with Chartering Agent
  • Ensuring the supply of the necessary provisions (including fuel oil, water, stores etc) to the vessels for complying with the charter party requirements in co-operation with the Technical & Purchasing Department
  • Ensuring that vessels Navigational safety, Bridge procedures, Charts-Publications corrections are maintained.
  • Ensuring that the Deck Log Books and voyage abstracts are checked during the inspections of shore personnel on board • Executing vessels’ annual SOPEP/NTVRP drills, are carried out by relevant Company’s fleet within the stated intervals.
  • Amending, reviewing and ensuring the implementation of vessels Ballast Water Management Plan.
  • Ensuring that necessary preparations have been made for the vessels’ third party inspections
  • Following up the findings of the Port State Control and USCG inspections and ensure their rectification in a proper manner
  • Coordinating the investigation of charterer’s inspection findings and their corresponding corrective and preventive actions. 
  • Preparing responses to inspecting companies.
  • Monitoring the implementation of corrective actions until all deficiencies are addressed at ship & fleet level.
  • Identifying shipboard personnel training needs related to the execution of shipboard Inspections
  • Knowledge of industry changes and developments (IMO, USCG etc)
  • Sharing information, lessons learnt and exchanging experience feedback with the Company’s
  • Heads.
  • Making suggestions for improvement of the SMS.
  • Assisting the Safety & Quality Dept in the implementation and improvement of the Company Safety management system.
  • Interviewing Master and Senior Deck Officers before joining the vessel and assisting the Crew Manager in the selection of qualified and experienced shipboard personnel.
  • Evaluating the Masters and the senior Deck Officers performance.
  • Reviewing Officers/ Crew Evaluations/Assessments that are submitted by the vessels.
  • Identified the training needs of the shipboard and shore personnel under his supervision
  • Co-operating with the Technical Manager regarding vessels’ requirements in relation to performance, maintenance and operational improvements.
  • Being responsible for the freight collection and demurrages.
  • Preparing and forwarding to owners’ brokers and claim adjusters all necessary documentation to support claims brought against the cargo claims and loss of hire insurances. • Keeping the Safety & Quality Dept. informed about all items affecting the Safe Operation of the vessels.
  • Assisting the S&Q Dept. in the investigation of incidents and non-conformities occurred on board the assigned ships and ensuring that proper corrective/preventive actions are being taken and implemented on the vessels.
  • Carrying out Internal Audits on board and/or ashore, if it is requested
  • Acting as a member of the Shore Emergency Team.
  • Participating in all inter-departmental & the Management Review meetings. 
  • Participating also in the Shore Safety Committee, if requested by the General Manager.
  • Submitting and cooperating in the review of proposals for improving the system.
  • Preparing and reviewing vessels’ budgets, submitting them for approval by the Company/ Management.
  • Operating the vessels in compliance with the Annual budget and justifying discrepancies, if any
  • Following developments at IMO, USCG and other industry bodies

Candidate Profile:

  • Degree in Maritime and/or Capt. A' B' or C' class
  • At least 10 years experience in a similar position
  • Sea going experience is a must specifically with Bulk Carriers
  • Fluent in English
