Description and Main Purpose of Job:
The Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) is a specialized electrical officer responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the vessel's electrical and electronic equipment. Operating under the direct supervision of the Chief Electrician, the ETO primarily focuses on machinery spaces, propulsion systems, and heavy technical areas. The role involves cooperating closely with the Assistant Electricians to ensure vessel-wide electrical reliability, while performing any additional general technical duties as reasonably required.
Key Responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, carry out, and follow up on the maintenance, inspection, and monitoring of all assigned electrical systems—specifically focusing on machinery spaces, propulsion, bridge equipment, and heavy deck machinery—ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation in coordination with the Chief Electrician. Perform regular inspections of machinery spaces, technical areas, and deck/bridge systems to verify the proper operation, condition, and cleanliness of equipment. Collaborate effectively with the Assistant Electricians, providing technical guidance or requesting assistance for complex troubleshooting when necessary, while maintaining a clear division of primary responsibilities (Engine/Deck/Bridge vs. Hotel/Galley zones). Manage electrical defect reporting and follow-up, including the identification, recording, prioritization, tracking, and closure of electrical defects for assigned equipment in Shipsure, under the supervision of the Chief Electrician. Ensure all maintenance activities, inspections, defects, and work orders are accurately recorded and followed up in Shipsure. Ensure that all operations are carried out in compliance with VMS, MARPOL, SOLAS, and all applicable procedures and regulations. Ensure that all operations are carried out in compliance with safety, security, environmental, and quality requirements, including the correct use of PPE, risk assessments, toolbox talks, permits to work, isolation procedures, and pollution prevention measures. Maintain high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness in all assigned areas, ensuring a safe and orderly working environment and the proper use, care, and storage of tools, equipment, and materials. Maintain spare parts control for assigned equipment, including stock monitoring, requisitions, consumption tracking, and preparation of orders when required. Conduct periodic physical inventories of spare parts and equipment as required by company procedures. Promote effective cooperation with the Staff Engineer and engine officers on electrical aspects of machinery and troubleshooting. Ensure compliance with work and rest hour requirements for self. Remain available to respond to operational requirements or emergencies outside normal working hours, as required. Maintain a professional appearance and conduct when working in or transiting through passenger areas, in accordance with Company standards. Prepare a comprehensive handover at the end of the contract, including system status, ongoing maintenance, outstanding defects, and spare parts. Perform any additional duties as may reasonably be required by the Master or Chief Engineer.

Work Experience Requirements
All applicants must have previous experience in working on ships.
Language Requirements
Good knowledge of the English language is required.
Certificates and Qualifications
Mandatory STCW certificates are required from all applicants.
