Boat Master – Passenger Ferry

The Harbour Ferry is looking for an experienced and reliable Boat Master to join our foot and bicycle passenger ferry operation.

Qualifications Required

Applicants must hold either:

Boatmaster Tier 1 Level 1, or
Boatmaster Tier 2 Level 2

with the appropriate Harwich endorsement for operating a passenger ferry.

The Role
Operating The Harbour Ferry safely and professionally
Working 5 days per week
Carrying foot passengers and bicycles
Ensuring safe embarkation and disembarkation
Carrying out normal vessel safety and operational checks
Providing a friendly and professional service to passengers
Working as part of the ferry crew
Being confident and competent in single-handed operation on quieter days when required

Full familiarisation with the vessel and our operation will be provided.

Salary & Contract

Salary: £40,000 per annum (pro rata).

The position runs from September to December 2026, with the potential to return for the 2027 season from April onwards.

This role would suit someone who is comfortable with both crewed and single-handed passenger ferry operations and is interested in returning for future seasons.
