We are seeking an experienced ETO for a temporary contract onboard a Research Vessel currently working out of South America.

Job Description:

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining all electrical equipment, electrical motors, starters, frequency drives and switchboards, including Voith thrusters, bow thrusters, cranes, LARS systems, alternators and HPU.
  • Keeping records of maintenance, both routine and emergency, on all electrical equipment in the Planned Maintenance System and keeping it up to date.
  • Maintaining records and stocks of electrical spares and consumable stores and preparing and submitting requisitions to the Chief Engineer.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of navigational equipment and electronic units for the bridge as directed by the Chief Engineer.
  • Maintaining a record of updated insulation values for the vessel’s power system and vibration monitoring equipment.
  • Plan, execute and document changes to the ship’s electrical system.
  • Work with the AVIT Engineer, assist as necessary and support as required by the Chief Engineer or IT manager.
  • Be familiar with all assigned security duties, both at sea and in port.

Specific requirements:

  • Engineering Officer Certificate of Competency STCW III/6.
  • Planned maintenance systems and purchasing programs experience.
  • Ability to coordinate maintenance, logistics and cruises; coordinate with scientific, deck, and hospitality teams.

Desirable additional skills/qualifications:

  • Commercial mariner background with minimum 12 months sea service as ETO; previous experience on large research vessels or advanced multi-role vessels preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks or other engineering programs, hydraulic systems, electrics, automation and controls; MAN engine experience advantageous.

Work Experience Requirements

All applicants must have previous experience in working on ships or oil rigs.

Language Requirements

Good knowledge of the English language is required.
