This is an excellent opportunity to join a global shipping company based in Glasgow.

We are looking for an experienced Commercial Operations Manager to oversee the Operations Team responsible for a fleet of Chemical, DPP and CPP Tankers, together with Container Vessels.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and cost-effective operation of the fleet whilst providing support and guidance to the operations staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the Operations Team (5 direct reports)
  • Monitor the day-to-day operation of the fleet, including voyage planning, scheduling and execution.
  • Oversee bunkering activities and agent nominations.
  • Monitor and control voyage costs, including port expenses and disbursements.
  • Liaise with Owners, Commercial Managers, Masters, Charterers, Brokers and Agents on operational matters.
  • Assist Masters with cargo-related issues, including coating compatibility, tank cleaning requirements and cargo queries.
  • Approve voyage-related expenses and oversee operational accounting matters.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables including freight, hire, demurrage and disbursement accounts, ensuring timely collection and settlement.
  • Support the development and improvement of operational systems and procedures.
  • Oversee the handling of P&I, Cargo and FD&D claims.
  • Ensure compliance with EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime requirements.
  • Oversee vessel performance monitoring, hull cleaning programmes and scrubber earnings calculations.
  • Supervise the administration of stevedore damage claims and crew bonus schemes.
  • Establish and monitor departmental KPIs, including SDR recovery and EU ETS cost recovery.
  • Mentor, train and support operational staff as required.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar Commercial Operations Manager role within a tanker, container or ship management environment.
  • Strong understanding of tanker operations and commercial shipping.
  • Experience managing and developing operational teams.
  • Good working knowledge of EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime regulations.
  • Experience handling marine claims and liaising with P&I Clubs.
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy operational environment.

Due to the nature of the role, applicants should live within reasonable travelling distance of Glasgow.
