Marine Ventures International offers an opportunity for a full time Assistant Engineer position on board the M/V INDEPENDENCE. The M/V INDEPENDENCE is a dynamically positioned research vessel primarily operating off the West Coast of the USA.
The Assistant Engineer works with the Chief Engineer to ensure the vessel is maintained in a seaworthy, clean and safe manner. The Assistant Engineer maintains all shipboard systems including, but not limited to propulsion, electrical, electronic, fuel, hydraulic, sanitation and potable water systems. The Asst. Engineer is the officer in charge of an engineering watch and assists in the supervision of the engineering department.
LOCATION: Oxnard, CA
JOB STATUS: Full Time 28 day on, 28 day off Rotational Position
SECURITY CLEARANCE: Top Secret SCI eligibility; Must be able to obtain a Secret clearance within 90 days. U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants
EDUCATION: HS Diploma or Equivalent
CERTIFICATIONS: Must possess USCG License (Merchant Mariner's Credential) for Third Assistant Engineer 2500 HP
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Shall hold an open ocean U.S. Coast Guard license as Assistant Engineer of inspected motor vessels powered by not less than 2500 HP diesel engines with a minimum of three years of experience in that class.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains equipment, spares and hazardous material inventories.
Maintains vessel equipment, performing routine and preventative maintenance as well as corrective maintenance.
Conducts fuel oil soundings and prepares fuel reports.
Schedules and performs Preventative Maintenance
Operates machinery and engineering systems.
Maintains and enforces shipboard safety programs.
Fills out purchasing forms, worksheets and receives purchased items.
Assists in the purchasing and ordering from vendors.
Assists in the preparation of corporate documents, contract deliverables and other paperwork as directed.
Conducts fuel oil and engineering consumables transfers, loading, and discharges.
Maintains hazardous material management plans
All other duties as assigned
Language Requirements
Good knowledge of the English language is required.
Certificates and Qualifications
Mandatory STCW certificates are required from all applicants.
