Navis are working on an opportunity across a large-scale cruise ship newbuild programme, working within a modern, project-driven engineering environment.

This role is suited to a professional with deep expertise in ship structural fabrication who is looking to play a key role in high-value, technically demanding projects.

Responsibilities

Acting as a senior authority within hull construction and structural works, you will oversee and verify steel fabrication, assembly, and installation activities during vessel construction. The role is site-based in Papenburg, with occasional travel to partner yards in Europe.

You will be responsible for ensuring that all structural works meet design specifications, class requirements, and quality standards, while also supporting broader project phases where required.

Core activities include:

  • Supervision and inspection of hull block assembly, welding, and structural integration
  • Review and interpretation of structural drawings, production documentation, and welding procedures
  • Monitoring fabrication quality, including weld inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) processes
  • Participation in key milestones such as dry dock operations, commissioning phases, and sea trials
  • Supporting design reviews, approval processes, and final vessel acceptance
  • Ensure compliance with technical specifications, class rules, and shipbuilding standards
  • Conduct inspections and surveys across all stages of steel construction
  • Oversee environmental and safety compliance during fabrication and installation activities
  • Provide technical input across adjacent disciplines such as coatings and outfitting where relevant
  • Act as a key interface between shipyard teams, subcontractors, and project stakeholders

Requirements

  • Degree in Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong background in shipbuilding, ideally within hull construction or structural fabrication
  • Expertise in welding technologies and NDT inspection methodologies
  • Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent) preferred
  • Experience working with shipyards, classification societies, or marine contractors in a senior capacity

Personal Attributes:

  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and compliance
  • Proactive and resilient, capable of operating in fast-paced project environments
  • Confident working across multiple stakeholders including yard teams and suppliers
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to influence technical decisions

Benefits

  • Long-term contract on a flagship European shipbuilding programme
  • Exposure to large-scale, technically advanced cruise vessel construction
  • Potential to transition into future projects depending on performance and programme pipeline
  • A professional, international environment where your expertise directly impacts delivery quality
