Vessel Type: MOD Support

We are seeking a Marine HSEQ Manager to support our client’s Defence maritime operations from their Greenock base. This is a temporary shore‑based position providing essential HSEQ oversight across afloat activities.

Start Date: ASAP
Duration: Until at least end of April (potential extension)
Location: Greenock, with hybrid working available
Hours: Monday–Friday, office hours

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide HSEQ expertise and assurance across afloat operations.
  • Support operational reviews, vessel safety cases, and risk management activities.
  • Lead or support incident and accident investigations, ensuring effective root‑cause analysis.
  • Maintain audit readiness and support internal/external audits and regulatory engagement.
  • Produce accurate HSEQ performance reporting and trend analysis.
  • Deliver or support HSEQ training for maritime personnel.
  • Engage with internal teams and external stakeholders including MOD, MCA, and Classification Societies.
  • Promote a proactive and positive safety culture across the operation.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum Level 6 qualification in Occupational Health & Safety (or working towards).
  • IOSH / IIRSM or equivalent membership.
  • Proven experience in an HSEQ practitioner role.
  • Strong understanding of maritime operations and UK Flag/Class regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with management systems such as ISO 9001, 45001, 14001 and ISM Code.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and problem‑solving skills.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • ISO / ISM Lead Auditor qualification.
  • Accident investigation training.
  • Food Safety Level 3 or above.
  • Trained trainer qualification.
  • Level 3 Fire Safety & Risk Management.
  • Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management.
  • Maritime background such as:
    • STCW II/2 Chief Mate (Unlimited)
    • STCW III/2 Second Engineer (Unlimited)
    • RN Ship Command or Engineering equivalent
    • Degree or extensive experience in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Technology, Port Operations, or Defence Business
  • Experience with maritime audits, MOD operations, environmental reporting, HAZID/HAZOP, or Defence regulatory frameworks.

Work Experience Requirements

All applicants must have previous experience in working on ships or oil rigs.

Language Requirements

Good knowledge of the English language is required.
