This is a new and exciting opportunity to join a reputable ship owner & operator based in Hampshire.

The Environmental Lead is responsible for coordinating and delivering environmental compliance and performance activity across the companies maritime and shore-based operations.

The role focuses on day-to-day environmental management, data coordination, regulatory compliance support, and operational engagement, working under the direction of the Head of Safety, Environment & Security.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate environmental compliance activity across vessels, ports, terminals, and shore-based operations.
  • Support the identification, assessment and tracking of environmental risks and controls.
  • Maintain environmental risk registers and action trackers, escalating issues where required.
  • Act as a day-to-day environmental contact for operational teams and for external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate data collection and evidence for environmental and climate reporting, including: ESOS, GRESB, MRV / ETS, SECR, SEMS and other regulatory submissions.
  • Support preparation of reports for internal review, assurance, and external submission.
  • Liaise with external consultants, verifiers and auditors as required, under senior oversight.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and operation of the Environmental Management System.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activity.
  • Help align environmental processes with wider safety and management systems.
  • Work closely with Fleet, Ports, Engineering and Estates teams to embed environmental controls into everyday operations.
  • Provide practical, proportionate environmental advice that supports safe and efficient operations.
  • Support delivery of environmental improvement initiatives such as: Energy efficiency, Waste reduction & Pollution prevention.
  • Provide environmental data and technical input to ESG frameworks, disclosures, and benchmarks.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience in environmental compliance, reporting, or sustainability roles within a regulated or operational environment.
  • Experience supporting or leading environmental reporting cycles (e.g. ESOS, SECR, MRV, ETS or similar).
  • Experience coordinating environmental data across multiple stakeholders or departments.
  • Experience in transport, maritime, utilities, infrastructure, or other asset-heavy sectors.
  • Experience with ESG frameworks or investor reporting (e.g. GRESB or similar).
  • Experience implementing or maintaining environmental management systems.
  • Experience supporting decarbonisation or energy efficiency initiatives.
  • A relevant environmental degree and/or Masters qualification in an environmental discipline would be preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks relevant to maritime, port and shore-based operations.
