Temp to Perm 3rd Engineer

The 3rd Engineer is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary systems onboard the vessel. The role works under the direction of the Chief Engineer and forms part of the engineering watchkeeping team. This position is initially temporary, with a view to becoming permanent based on performance and operational needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Engineer and engineering team in the operation, maintenance, and repair of main engines, auxiliary engines, and all mechanical/electrical machinery.
• Carry out routine and planned maintenance in accordance with the vessel’s Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
• Monitor engine room equipment performance, recording readings and reporting abnormalities.
• Perform watchkeeping duties as part of the engineering watch, ensuring compliance with safe working practices and operational procedures.
• Assist with troubleshooting, fault finding, and emergency repairs.
• Support compliance with classification society, flag state, and company safety management system (SMS) requirements.
• Maintain high standards of safety, environmental protection, and pollution prevention.
• Participate in drills, emergency response activities, and safety meetings.
• Ensure good housekeeping and cleanliness throughout the engine room and machinery spaces.

Requirements

• OOW Engineer Unlimited Certificate of Competency
• Advanced Fire Fighting
• Medical First Aid
• STCW courses including Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats (PSCRB), Fire Fighting, Personal Survival Techniques, Elementary First Aid
• Security Awareness & Designated Duties Certificates
• High Voltage (Operational Level)
• Valid, unrestricted ENG1 Medical Certificate
• Previous experience sailing as an Engineer on similar vessel types (dredger experience advantageous)
• Strong technical skills, good communication, and ability to work as part of a team
