This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the UK’s best ferry operators as their new Head of Health, Safety & Environment.

You will promote a safety culture by driving high standards of safety & compliance throughout the company.

Responsibilities

  • To oversee the analysis, improvement and assurance processes of the Company’s Safety system and to ensure overall compliance with ship and shore safety
  • Drive the maintenance and use of the company incident reporting and incident management system ensuring external reporting requirements are met.
  • Develop a transparent culture within safety where responsibilities and accountabilities are made very clear at all organisations levels and likewise for external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Designated Person Ashore (Regulation 4 in the International Safety Management Code) on all aspects of safety, wellbeing and pollution control.
  • To manage the analysis of incidents through the development of qualitative investigations, promoting clear learns from such events and making recommendations for change.
  • To act as key liaison with the MCA and Chamber of Shipping on Policy and Compliance
  • To develop a positive safety culture by focusing the Company’s attention on both behavioural safety and visibility-felt Safety leadership.

Requirements

  • Some seagoing experience as a senior deck officer is preferred combined with shore based management experience within HSEQ
  • Experience within both the maritime and land based sectors of safety, health and the environment, regulation, codes of practise and process.
  • Clear experience of working with enforcement and other agencies such as, Maritime Coastguard Agency, Health & Safety Executive, Marine Accident Investigation Board, Environment Agency, Local Authority, Harbour Authorities and industry representational groups such as the Chamber of Shipping.
  • A clear knowledge of ALL aspects of Environmental Social Governance (ESG).
  • Excellent communication skills are required – at all levels and including presentations.
  • High level of leadership, persuasiveness and collaboration is necessary for the role.
  • You must have experience of working with stakeholders and especially interaction at board level.
  • You must have the right to work in the UK and hold a full UK drivers licence
