We have been retained by a dynamic start-up shipping company based in Athens, backed by experienced professionals and strong investors. They specialize in the ownership and operation of bulk carriers and are entering an exciting growth phase with a new fleet.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Technical Manager to build and lead a brand-new in-house Technical Management Department. This is a unique opportunity to join at an early stage, shape the technical culture of the company, and play a key role in the safe, efficient, and cost-effective technical operation of our fleet of bulk carriers.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, organize, and lead the company’s in-house Technical Management Department from the ground up.
  • Oversee all technical aspects of the fleet’s operation, including planned maintenance, repairs, dry dockings, and compliance with national and international regulations.
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies, procedures, and standards for the fleet.
  • Coordinate and monitor vessel performance, ensuring vessels operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.
  • Lead selection, management, and evaluation of key technical service providers, contractors, and spare parts suppliers.
  • Ensure full compliance with ISM Code, class, flag state, and other statutory requirements.
  • Support and guide vessel crew on technical issues; visit vessels when required.
  • Work closely with senior management on fleet expansion, budgeting, and CAPEX planning.
  • Contribute to the company’s digitalization efforts and continuous improvement culture

Requirements

  • University degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 7–10 years of relevant experience in technical management of bulk carriers (ideally with prior experience establishing or restructuring a technical department).
  • Recent experience working with modern engines with electric propulsion systems
  • Have experience of working with Newbuilds and/or taking delivery of new vessels
  • Deep knowledge of planned maintenance systems, class and flag requirements, and maritime regulations.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills; ability to set up processes and manage a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a hands-on and proactive attitude.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written); knowledge of Greek is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
