The 3rd Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting the maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of all electrical and electronic equipment aboard the cruise vessel. Working under the supervision of the 1st and Chief Electrical Engineers, this role ensures that all systems are operating safely and in compliance with maritime regulations and company standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic systems including:
    • Power distribution (HV/LV)
    • Lighting systems
    • Fire detection and alarm systems
    • Navigation and communication systems (as applicable)
    • Automation and control systems
    • HVAC electrical components
    • Lifesaving and safety equipment (e.g., lifeboat davit motors, emergency lighting)
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance as scheduled.
  • Monitor the operation of generators, switchboards, transformers, and electrical panels.
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in compliance with company procedures, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Keep maintenance logs and update records in the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
  • Participate in safety drills, training, and other emergency response procedures.
  • Assist in electrical repairs during dry-docking or technical stops.
  • Support the Hotel Engineering department in maintaining hotel-related electrical systems when required.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid Certificate of Competency (CoC) – Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) or equivalent in accordance with STCW.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of sea-going experience in a similar role preferred; cruise industry experience is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of shipboard electrical systems and maritime safety standards.
  • Familiarity with marine-classification society rules and flag state regulations.
  • Good command of English (spoken and written).
