I am looking for a 3rd Engineer to join a leading Cruise Line. You will be inspecting, maintaining and operating machinery with the highest standards.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The 3rd Engineer is a licensed watchkeeping officer responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the cruise ship’s engine room equipment and auxiliary systems. Reporting to the 2nd Engineer, the 3rd Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring the vessel’s mechanical systems are functioning efficiently, safely, and in compliance with international maritime regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stand engine room watch as per the watch schedule, ensuring all systems operate within safety parameters.
  • Monitor and maintain auxiliary machinery such as pumps, compressors, purifiers, boilers, incinerators, sewage treatment plants, and air conditioning systems.
  • Perform planned maintenance and corrective repairs on assigned equipment under the guidance of the 2nd Engineer.
  • Record daily readings and maintain engine room logs accurately.
  • Assist in bunkering operations and monitor fuel oil and lube oil consumption.
  • Follow the vessel’s Safety Management System (SMS), environmental protocols, and pollution prevention procedures.
  • Ensure proper operation of fire-fighting and safety equipment under engineering responsibility.
  • Assist in emergency drills and respond effectively to onboard emergencies.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering and technical crew to ensure smooth operations.

Requirements

  • Qualifications:
    • Valid STCW III/1 Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch (OICEW) license.
    • Valid seafarer documents, including STCW certificates (Basic Safety Training, Advanced Fire Fighting, Medical Care, etc.).
    • Medical certificate (ENG1 or equivalent).
    • Fluency in English (spoken and written); additional languages a plus.

    Experience:

    • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a similar position on a seagoing vessel, preferably on passenger or cruise ships.

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong technical and troubleshooting skills.
    • Good understanding of marine engines, pumps, and auxiliary systems.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team.
    • Strong adherence to safety and environmental practices.
