The L&D Manager acts as a strategic partner dedicated to the professional growth and development of shipboard employees. By conducting training needs analysis and implementing effective learning initiatives, the manager enhances crew productivity, business performance, and fosters a strong culture aligned with Brand Standards.
Responsibilities
Training (30%)
-
Design, deliver, and facilitate training programs including eXplore/eXplore Plus (New Hire Onboarding), Service Excellence refreshers, and other department-specific sessions.

Lead crew culture and service trainings, partnering with department leaders to ensure smooth onboarding and successful knowledge transfer.

Deliver impactful sessions that drive individual and team effectiveness.

Leadership Support and Development (40%)

Facilitate leadership development programs such as Train the Trainer (T3), Leadership Bootcamp (LBC), Getting Started as a New Leader (GSNL), E-Cornell Roundtables, Conducting Performance Appraisals (ACDPA), and other ALPS program modules.

Support onboard leaders in identifying performance gaps, crafting development plans, and succession planning.

Coach leaders on “on the spot coaching” techniques and providing effective feedback.

Promote and support team motivation through recognition programs and funds.

Provide ongoing feedback to trainers to improve training delivery and methods.

Help managers maintain brand operational standards through effective knowledge transfer.

HR Support & Office Hours (30%)

Support talent progression and internal pipeline processes.

Assist with crew embarkation and training session scheduling.
-
Guide leaders through personalized development plan creation and execution.

Create tailored learning interventions to address performance and behavioral gaps.
-
Coach leaders on championing Brand Standards and embedding culture in daily operations.
-
Attend departmental and leadership meetings to provide insight on development activities.
-
Process couple ID requests as per SOP guidelines, supporting HR Director visibility.
Requirements
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Learning & Development, Business Administration, Human Resources, Psychology, or related field preferred.
-
Postgraduate or professional certificate in Adult Learning and Development is essential.
-
Minimum 5 years of HR experience specializing in Learning and Organizational Development within upscale hospitality, cruise lines, or corporate environments.

Skilled in adult learning principles, consulting, coaching, mentoring, and training.
-
Passionate about continuous learning with ability to align learning initiatives to business priorities.
-
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfortable with additional required systems.
Language Requirements

Clear, cordial spoken English for effective communication with guests and crew.
-
Ability to read, write, and interpret English documents, procedures, and instructions.
-
Competent in writing grammatically correct reports and letters.
Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, use of hands and arms, talking, hearing, and sensory abilities (taste, smell).
-
Visual capabilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Ability to enforce organizational safety and health standards.

Full physical capability to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills.
-
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
