This is a rare opportunity to join one of the UK's market leaders in district heating. Right now, our client is looking for two Senior Mechanical Engineer to manage the mechanical design of major, £multimillion district heating projects. Not only will you be involved in them from start to finish, you can also expect to be working on a number of different projects at any one time. This will give you exposure to everything from schematics, design documentation and proposals through to risk reviews, risk management and the delivery of design quality standards.

You can also expect plenty of autonomy here. As well as taking full control for your projects, identifying new opportunities and making recommendations for improvements, you'll work closely with different stakeholders. You'll need to communicate with their clients' technical representatives, external contractors, their own Community Energy designers and our delivery team to manage expectations and ensure we have an optimal technical solution. At the same time, you'll provide technical support and guidance to their project and commercial teams, and mentor less experienced design engineers.

Essential skill requirements

  • A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering field and Chartered Engineer status.
  • Strong stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills.
  • Experience of construction design and management regulations, auditing, and design risk assessment.
  • A thorough knowledge of UK mechanical regulations and standards.
  • Experience of designing high rise building systems.
  • A good working knowledge of Energy Centre functionality, operation and design.
  • Experience of working with pressure system standards and controls.
  • The ability to solve complex problems in a structured and professional way.

Desirable skills

  • Knowledge of Combined Heat and Power systems.
  • Knowledge of district heating network design and operations.
  • An understanding of thermal system modelling.
  • Previous experience of managing junior engineers and contractors.
