This is a contract role for a Licensed Chief Engineer aboard a US-flagged tuna purse seiner operating in the Pacific. The Licensed Chief Engineer will be responsible for performing daily inspections and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical systems on board the fishing vessel. They will ensure the safe and efficient operation of all machinery and equipment, and will be responsible for overseeing repairs and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the engineering team in maintaining and operating vessel machinery.
- Oversee maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of Asakasa engines, Yanmar equipment, Falk gearboxes, Marco hydraulics, screw-type compressors, and -60c brine freezing systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maritime regulations.
- Collaborate with other officers to optimize vessel performance.
Qualifications
- Valid USCG Licensed Chief Engineer certificate (minimum 5,000).
- At least 3 years of experience working with the specified equipment.
- Strong knowledge of marine engineering principles.
- Ability to manage a team effectively.
- Must be computer literate in Microsoft Office and shipboard monitoring and maintenance software.
- Demonstrate appropriate management and administrative skills.
- Logically and independently plan, organize, and complete work assignments.
- Ability to use independent judgment and discretion to develop and execute innovative solutions to engineering problems.
- Possess a thorough understanding of all pertinent regulations and laws.
- Possess excellent analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Successfully submit and complete pre-employment background check.
- Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG, including pre-employment, random, and post-accident testing.
- Must possess a valid United States Passport.
Compensation:
- Competitive salary with bonuses based on catch performance
- Status: 1099 (independent contractor)
Language Requirements
Good knowledge of the English language is required.
