Water Taxi of Fort Lauderdale has been an icon in South Florida for over 30 years; serving the Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood area with year-round service, private charters, and special event transportation. Water Taxi is based in the Yachting Capitol of the World, Fort Lauderdale Florida, and boasts the largest passenger fleet in South Florida.
The Fleet/Port Captain is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the company’s vessels on a daily basis. This includes training and overseeing the performance and conduct of all crew members, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations and maintaining high standards of customer service. This is primarily a in the field position. The Fleet/Port captain works closely with the Operations Manager to uphold policies and procedures that enhance the quality control and customer service of the fleet.
This team leader will be goal oriented, have the ability to communicate and effectively plan for the team to achieve their goals. Providing direction and timely feedback on performance in a constructive manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises all Boat Crew and ambassadors by upholding Water Taxis policy and procedures
- Train all new captains, deck hands and other crew members to Water Taxi Standard Operating Procedures
- Create training materials for captains and deckands
- Conduct field inspections of operations across company personnel, fleet, and locations
- Coordinate with Operations Manager and General Manager on implementation of corrective actions/lessons learned
- Leads special projects for Marine Ops related to safety and navigation
- Ensure vessel cleanliness and quality of guest experience
- Assist with investigations, audits, regulatory inspections and surveys, and risk assessments
- Provide operations manager with training documents and status for crew
- Implement new policies and procedures put forth by the management team
- Interface with customers and resolve customer issues
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
- Develops operations procedures and best practices to attain cost savings, improve vessel material condition
- Weekend and evening shift assignments as per schedule
- Act as Captain when necessary
- Promote positive relations with business partners, clients, and vendors.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory agency (USCG, etc.) requirements and guidelines
- Stays abreast of industry trends and makes recommendations of changes, which would affect operations
Knowledge and Skill Requirements :
- United States Coast Guard License - Master 100 ton and/or shoreside managerial experience of at least 5 years in the maritime industry managing fleet of vessels
- FCC Radio operator’s license
- Current CPR certificate
- Current Red Cross, first aid card
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to proficiently read, write and converse in the English language
- Must be 18 years old
- Ability to handle cash and perform credit card and check transactions
- High School diploma, post-secondary education preferred
- Possession of a valid driver’s license
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
- Must be able to interact with various personality types
