Serco Marine Services operates and manages around 120 vessels from 7 sites around the UK, providing maritime services for our Customers in the Defence and Nuclear sectors. As owners and operators of specialist vessels, from harbour work boats to ocean going support vessels, we provide world class integrated marine services.

 

We are currently recruiting for a Deck Rating to join our team at Devonport Marine on a Fixed Term Contract. The purpose of this role is to act as the main labour force aboard the vessel. The post holder will carry out a range of duties and tasks, assisting in the safe operation of the vessel or the handling of its cargo.

 

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • To carry out instructions as specified by the Master and vessel officers
  • To understand vessel and Company systems and procedures
  • Berthing/Slipping of the Vessels
  • Vessel husbandry tasks
  • Vessel operational tasks
  • To carry out operational checks on equipment which they are expected to use including winches, towing gear, FFA and LSA, before and during tasks
  • Report defects and assist in the maintenance necessary for proper operation of all equipment
  • Drive deck machinery including cranes
  • Assist in repair and maintenance of the vessel and its equipment
  • Familiarisation with all safety equipment onboard and undertake training to always ensure highest operational safety standard of the vessel
  • Support, take part in and organise, as necessary, lifesaving and firefighting drills and all other mandated drills as per IMS
  • Any other reasonable task as directed by the Operations Manager


What you’ll need to do the role:

  • EDH Course or AB’s Ticket
  • Watchrating Certificate
  • ENG 1 Medical
  • STCW – PSSR, PST, PSCRB & Fire Fighting
  • Food Hygiene Cert
  • Health & Safety awareness
  • Manual Handling
