Technical Officer – Permanent – London (Hybrid) – Excellent package

A vacancy is available for a Technical Officer in the Maritime Affairs of a reputable Flag State Administration, responsible for important maritime research, review and preparation of internal briefing papers for the state in an international forum.

This role provides the great opportunity for those interested in maritime flag state policy and international conventions, and thereby allowing the team to Flag state to maintain it good reputation in the international arena.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Department, as appropriate and instructed, in all matters related to the Maritime Affairs team.
  • Assist in IMO related work, through attendance, review of documents, preparation of internal briefing and debriefing notes and draft relevant interventions.
  • Attend and contribute towards industry-based correspondence and working groups.
  • Conduct relevant research in dealing with matters of current maritime interest, statistics, data analysis and previous IMO documents and records.
  • Maintain multiple data bases of meeting records, submissions, reports, and related documents.
  • Maintain internal filing systems and contribute towards Quality Assurance.
  • Organise and assist in hosting multi organisational and inter departmental meetings and webinars. Draw appropriate agenda and minutes of meetings.
  • Utilize efficient IT skills for managing contributions from the Department towards internal website and social media contribution.

Experience Required:

  • Preferably, hold a university degree in Nautical Science (Minimum 2:1 Honours), Marine Science, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline in which the transport of cargoes by sea is involved.
  • Some sailing experience would be an advantage, though not mandatory.
  • Possess an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Flag State.
  • Experienced in researching subject matters of maritime interest and providing summary as applicable for producing official documents to IMO and the industry.
  • Possess understanding and empathy for working in a multicultural environment. Proficiency in more than one official UN language would be an advantage.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, at all levels including in an international, cross-cultural context
