Marine Surveyor

The Bermuda Shipping and Maritime Authority (BSMA) seeks the services of a qualified, experienced, and motivated person to fill the post of Marine Surveyor.

The BSMA operates an International Shipping Registry and is a Member of the Red Ensign Group of British Shipping Registries. The BSMA’s has offices in Hamilton, Bermuda and London and has a complement of Marine Surveyors globally based to provide surveys, audits, and inspection services to Bermuda registered ships.

Operating from the Bermuda office, the post holder will be part of an active technical team tasked with performing the statutory duties required by a high quality, prestigious shipping registry.

This post will be responsible for applying and enforcing the provisions of the International Conventions relating to maritime safety and security, prevention of pollution, seafarers’ qualifications and living and working standards on Bermuda registered ships operating world-wide.

Requirements for this role include:

  • A Certificate of Competency as a Chief Engineer (STCW Reg. III/2- over 3000 kW) or Master (STCW Reg. II/2-unlimited).
  • Qualifications and experience as an Auditor for conducting ISM, ISPS and MLC 2006 audits,
  • A minimum of five (5) years post qualification experience to include two (2) years’ experience at a senior level on a ship and three (3) years’ experience in marine surveying is required.
