Tribologist (Marine) – Permanent – Glasgow, UK – Competitive Package

The Condition Monitoring department has a great opportunity for a Tribologist with experience in used lubricating oil analysis, fuel oil and water analysis. The role requires diagnostic and investigative abilities based on test results provided by the laboratory and the ability to deal directly with clients

Responsibilities include:

  • Review, analyse, interpret and report Used Lubricating Oil, Fuel Oil and water samples.
  • To analyse and report on various clients performances based on the Used Lubricating oil report. This report is done either quarterly, half yearly or annually as per client’s requirements.
  • To assist in preparing Technical bulletins on a regular basis and distribute to clients. Technical bulletins will be relevant to the results of the analysis and findings.
  • To assist in maintaining KPI for clients using Used Lubricating Oil Analysis services (ULOA) and to assist in providing expert advice to improve the KPI.
  • To assist with review , QA and updating materials to reflect changes in industry and department
  • Assist in preparing proposals including all required supporting documentation.
  • Assist in reporting of Condition Monitoring Survey (Thermal and Vibration) reports.

Experience Required:

  • Master’s/Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Chemistry disciplines
  • Experience in a fluid testing laboratory, OEM, Condition monitoring, class societies, oil majors etc
  • Experience with used lubricating oil, fuel and water: analysis, interpreting results and reporting
  • Experience within the marine industry and good knowledge of IMO regulations
  • Good Hold over MS Office packages including word processing, spread sheets, databases and web-based applications
  • Good knowledge on analysis procedures, regulations and interpretation of results to applicable ISO/ASTM standards (Desirable)
  • Experience in working with water (ballast water, scrubber water, sewage, potable water etc.) (Desirable)
  • Experience in fuel oil analysis and interpretation. Good knowledge on bunker analysis procedures (Desirable)
