Technical Superintendent – Barrow/Hybrid

Technical Superintendent (Tankers) – Permanent – Barrow/Hybrid – Competitive Package

This is a great opportunity to join a reputable ship management company. The role will be on a hybrid working basis with an anticipated 2-3 days a week in the office in Barrow with the remainder WFH

Responsibilities include:

• To visit, or arrange visits, to vessels on a regular basis to ensure that the laid down standards are maintained.
• To ensure, in conjunction with the Crew Managers, that the vessels are manned at all times in accordance with their safe manning certificates and that additional crew members and/or travelling security personnel have required certs.
• To monitor the appointment of Masters and Chief Engineers in conjunction with the Contract managers and Crew Managers.
• To prepare repair and dry-docking specifications as necessary. To approve all maintenance, repair, dry-docking and communication invoices in accordance with agreed authorisation levels, within timely receipt by the office.
• To monitor vessels speed and consumption at sea and consumption in port, together with the efficient operation of the cargo gear, cargo and ballast pumps, inert gas system, and tank cleaning equipment, together with other deck and safety equipment.
• To monitor vessels Class and trading certificates with the Marine Department, to ensure timely renewal and/or survey.
• To keep abreast of technical developments and make suggestions regarding their application to the owners and managers. To attend seminars and conferences as required.

Experience Required:

• Qualified to at least STCW III/2 chief engineer and / or have a Degree in a Marine Engineering related discipline.
• Developed Engineering professional with an understanding and experience of engineering and technical processes in the Marine Industry. Extensive experience as a sea-going Engineer
• At least 2 years relevant shore based technical experience to include, technical management, knowledge of port and vessel operations, maintenance, Flag and Class requirements/regulations, Budgetary management experience.
• Detailed knowledge and experience of requirements covered by ISM, knowledge of standards ISO 9001 and 14000
• Membership of Professional bodies. Some employee relations / Trade Union experience (desirable)
