We are recruiting for a Barge Master to join our clients barge working on a coastal defence project from the 8th of September 2023 for 4-5 weeks.

Ideally, you will have barge or towage experience. This will be working in a crew of 2 (Master & AB). It is not live onboard so accommodation is provided and all travel is covered.

Main tasks/responsibilities:

  1. Preparing for towing, ensuring towing wires, bridles, chains are correctly and safely rigged;
  2. Anchoring, mooring/unmooring (as part of transhipment process);
  3. Loading the barge to the required drafts/stability requirements;
  4. Liaising with the towing tug and cargo vessel to ensure safe and efficient operations;
  5. Starting up and shutting down windlass, mooring winch and generators;
  6. Adhering to company's safety requirements particularly for PPE and keeping a safe navigational and cargo watch as required (we will provide a complete set of the required PPE);
  7. There is no requirement for the crew to operate a shovel/excavator for loading or unloading cargo; however, they would be required to assist in terms of fueling the machine when required and providing other assistance as needed.

Certificates required:

  • Master 200gt CoC or higher
  • Updated STCW training
  • ENG1
  • PSCRB
