A market leading subsea telecommunication cable company is currently looking for a GIS Technician to join the team. The Marine Directorate plays a key part in ensuring implementation and maintenance capabilities, with the development of a GIS platform using Esri GIS Enterprise being implemented.

The GIS platform will support company project delivery teams as a technical hub to drive improved collaboration, efficiencies and quality across functions. The GIS Technician role will be key in implementing and maintaining the operational management of the GIS platform, working within the Marine department while collaborating with other functions in the organisation.

Initial activities for the role will strongly focus on data entry into the platform, using legacy datasets from marine survey and installation activities. In parallel the operational use of the GIS platform will increase as its operational use develops, with a greater requirement for day-to-day operational support to project teams. The specifics of the role will adjust as the GIS platform develops and new features are added.

Responsibilities:

  • Support operational teams by acting as a point of contact for data entry/usage and cartographic requests.
  • Ability to understand and compile different geographical layers from a variety of data types, formats and sources.
  • Identifying, acquiring and formatting new data sources for the ESRI Enterprise database.
  • Entering new data into the GIS database following data governance rules and requirements.
  • Creating high quality maps and charts using Esri ArcGIS software for both internal and external use.
  • Maintaining the GIS database and troubleshooting basic user issues.
  • Providing user feedback to fuel the feature backlog to the GIS platform developers.
  • Acting as a principal designer for project team tools or solutions

Qualifications and experience:

  • Degree in GIS, Remote Sensing, Computer Science or a related Earth Sciences subject.
  • Proficient in using the Esri ArcGIS suite of software, ArcGIS Pro experience is desired.
  • Proven examples of high-quality cartography and a strong understanding of GIS systems.
  • Good interpersonal and team communication skills for collaborative work, supporting a matrix organisation structure.
  • You must be a self-motivated individual, excited by the challenge of implementing and running a new GIS system within the world’s leading submarine cable company.

Applicants must have an existing right to live and work in the UK and be living within a commutable distance to London as this is an office-based position.
