A unique opportunity to utilise your maritime experience to maintain and help shape the development of navigational products and services, in turn supporting the safety and prosperity of the maritime community.

About the UKHO

UKHO is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. We work with a wide range of data suppliers and partners, surveying and charting the world's oceans in order to develop and serve world leading software and data solutions to commercial shipping companies, navies and maritime organisations. Our products ensure safe navigation and global trade efficiency and support other marine activities including economic development, environmental protection, resource exploration and utilisation, scientific research and security and defence.

The role

It is an exciting time to join UKHO as we continue to move towards producing digital Sailing Direction volumes. Sailing Direction volumes provide essential information to support port entry and coastal navigation for all classes of ships at sea. Quality is paramount and as a Maritime Advisor, you will ensure the volumes of Sailing Directions are safe, accurate, clear to users, whilst remaining comprehensive, and up to date including Section IV Notice to Mariners.

You will also draw upon your maritime experience to act as the “voice of the customer”, providing navigational and maritime input for existing and emerging UKHO products and services.

We are looking for Officer of the Watch CoC qualified (or navy equivalent) maritime professionals. In your application you will need to provide details of your sea going experience as a sole/senior watchkeeper along with examples of your experience of passage planning and coastal navigation.

In return

UKHO is a great place in which to explore your career potential. While our projects are career-defining, the work/life balance that we can offer you is equally exceptional. From flexitime, flexible working, an award-winning office environment and a generous annual leave allowance of 34.5 days including public holidays, the opportunities open to you here are hard to beat.

The role will be contractually based at our office in Taunton. We have embraced hybrid working, recognising it is about what you bring to the role and deliver, not where you work from.

Based on the individual needs of your role, you may need to be in the office for training, development and team activities. Please discuss in more detail with the hiring manager to understand the needs of this role.
