I am working with a multi-award-winning, family-run passenger boat company based in Exmouth, Devon.

The vacancy is for year-round, full-time employment and hours will be variable and flexible, to include weekdays, weekends, evenings, Bank Holidays and School Holidays. There is an opportunity for increased hours during our busiest summer season and fewer hours during their quieter winter season.

We are seeking someone who will share the company’s enthusiasm for the Leisure and Tourism industry and in providing unforgettable experiences for visitors and locals who choose to sail with them. They go above and beyond and promote a positive, can-do culture within the team. They are more than just a boat trip and the team are much, much more than ‘just employees’.

The successful candidate will not only be a confident and competent Boat Master, they will also take pride in their appearance and that of their vessels. The vessels are maintained to the highest level and the new Skipper will be in charge of the overall running of the vessel.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the boat along the designated route, come alongisde pontoons and piers and moor safely and efficiently
  • Ability to learn about the local area; confidently and charismatically deliver an interesting and informative live commentary in clear English during cruises for passengers’ enjoyment
  • Perform required manoeuvres in all weathers
  • Adhere to the company DSM Policy and take shared responsibility of all safety aspects of the running of the vessel, including daily, weekly and monthly safety checks, refueling, execution of emergency drills with Crew and ensuring regular training for Crew in all elements of on board safety. All safety aspects require written record keeping.
  • High standard of cleaning
  • A proficient leader – you will take charge of the vessel and hold responsibility for all aspects of its safe and successful running

Requirements:

  • Boat Master, Yacht Master or equivalent license
  • Living within a 30-minute commute to or be willing to relocate to Exmouth.
  • ENG1 Medical or equivalent
  • MCA Accredited Certifications in Fire-fighting, First Aid, Sea Survival and a VHF License
  • The successful candidate will be prepared to work outdoors in all weathers.

In-depth practical training will be provided and a significant amount of time will be dedicated to learning local knowledge. Please note, the successful candidate will be primarily driving the boat for cruises in the River Exe; the River Exe is tidal and is not an easy area to work in. The new Skipper will therefore need to be willing to learn and committed to acquiring new skills.

Benefits:

  • Get to go home every night
  • Company events
  • Discounted or free food
  • Employee discount
  • Flexitime
  • Free parking

Applicants must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
