Marine Policy & Projects Manager – Permanent – Kent

We are looking for a Marine Policy & Projects Manager to help assist the Chief Harbour Master team in the management and delivery of the Navigational Safety Management System (SMS), leading on document creation and review, in support of the Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC) and relevant statutory obligations.

Some Duties include:

  • Assist as required and deputise for the Marine Manager in their absence
  • Lead on document creation and review in support of the PLA’s regulatory framework
  • Support Senior Management in HSE Policy, Guidelines and Objectives definition and delivery.
  • Conduct regular planned internal marine audits/health checks to verify the PLA systems and processes
  • Lead on the scheduled, rolling review of PLA marine regulatory publications, guidance, marine policies and navigational information.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Hold a STCW II/2 (Chief Mate) Certificate of Competency or equivalent, or a lesser STCW / BML Certificate, with relevant experience.
  • Have significant relevant experience in the marine and/or ports industry.
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the PMSC (and supporting Guide to Good Practice) marine risk assessment techniques and relevant ports and marine legislation.
  • Significant knowledge and demonstrable understanding of Safety Management Systems, Marine operations, Marine Risk Assessment techniques, Incident investigation and risk management, etc.
