The Opportunity
Located in south-east London, Beckton Combined Heat & Intelligent Power Plant (CHiP) is fuelled by bio-liquids powering a MAN B&W marine 2 stroke diesel engine coupled to a 13 MW generator. Exhaust gases drive a turbo generator feeding the local LV site distribution system, before being treated through a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, then released to atmosphere.
Due to the promotion of the previous role holder, we’re now inviting applications for the role of MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN to join our busy, dedicated site team. In this days-based role, you’ll complete a range of hands-on maintenance responsibilities across our 24/7 site, maintaining and problem solving on our huge Mann Diesel engine – (the power behind our power,) pumps, valves and everything mechanical at plant. Your contributions will also drive continuous improvement and deliver planned, unplanned and outage maintenance and projects.

You’re also committed to developing yourself and delivering improvements. You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching and twice-yearly development reviews to develop your competence.
Your principle responsibilities include:
Mechanical engineering and maintenance: investigating, troubleshooting, planned repair scopes, preventative and predictive maintenance, equipment installation and projects.
Defect rectification, emergent and project work relating to rotating and stationary equipment, providing timely feedback and updating the Shift Log and the Site CMMS (Agility).
Producing and improving maintenance procedures, work plans, project and contractor work scopes.
Updating the CMMS.
Minimum Requirements: To be successful you must have the following qualifications and experience:
Mechanical apprenticeship including NVQ3 or equivalent qualification in mechanical discipline
Working in a 24/7 industrial process completing mechanical investigations, troubleshooting, planned repairs, predictive & preventative maintenance, equipment installation, fault finding.
Maintaining rotating equipment, steam raising systems, piping and valves.
Working to business, SHEQ and legislative requirements: PSSR, DSEAR, HASAWA, LOLER.
Use of CMMS to complete accurate reporting, trending and improvement.

Language Requirements
Good knowledge of the English language is required.
