Marine Engineer/Fitter – Gosport – Up to £35,000 p.a.

In order to provide day to day engineering and electrical support for the Maintenance Supervisor who supervises the Company’s Marine Engineering Workshops, one of the key objectives necessary to operate a successful ferry operation is the day-to-day management for the repair and maintenance of the Company’s Fleet.

This is further complemented when each vessel is dry-docked annually between December – May and repair works such as engine overhauls, underwater inspections and maintenance of propeller units, painting of the hull and superstructure, surveying and servicing of safety equipment are all carried out to the highest standards in order to obtain a Passenger Ship Safety Certificate from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
The Marine Fitter must be neatly presented and wear clean personal protective equipment, as provided by the company.

Main Duties:

-To undertake any task required for the efficient running of the maintenance team.
-Work closely with the Maintenance Supervisor and his team to ensure that repairs of all reported defects are cleared as quickly as possible, immediately notifying the Maintenance Supervisor of any incident or technical defect, which may delay a vessel sailing.
-To undertake the safe operation of machinery, mechanical plant and vehicles.
-To undertake workshop induction and training on plant and equipment operation.
-Provide on-call support as part of the Duty Fitter roster, if required.

Qualifications/ Education Required:

-Preferred STCW Second Engineer less than 3,000kW III/3 or minimum STCW Engineer Officer of the Watch III/3 (OOW) Certificate of Competency, or RN equivalent.

-Candidates with alternative marine engineering qualifications will be considered dependent upon experience.

-Full clean UK driving license.

Experience Required:

A minimum of 5 years’ experience required in the servicing and overhaul of marine engines, auxiliaries and propulsion units, together with a knowledge of electrical installations.

– A thorough knowledge of fault finding techniques.

-Arc and MIG welding and using oxyacetylene equipment would be an advantage, including minor fabrication work.

-Refrigerant or air conditioning.

-Will be required to update maintenance records etc.
