Reporting to Section Manager, core purpose will be to ensure the accurate underwriting assessment and processing of life and disability products.

Ensure fair treatment of policyholders and financial advisors in respect of Aegon Individual Protection business in a timely and efficient manner that is in line with agreed underwriting philosophy, practices and Aegon standards.

Take into account legal and compliance regulations

Support business and department objectives in line with the client(s) agreed philosophy and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite cases within the required service standards and in accordance with departmental objectives.
  • Ensure relevant TCF principles are applied at all times.
  • Produce accurate assessment of life and disability products using; medical, financial, occupational and pursuits evidence in line with underwriting philosophy and practices. Refer as appropriate to the CMO, reassurers and senior colleagues.
  • Handle and support complex customer and IFA enquiries.
  • Act as a source of technical guidance to others in order to resolve technical queries using appropriate processes, tolls, systems and philosophy.
  • To support the development and delivery of underwriting/technical projects in an efficient and timely manner that is in line with agreed underwriting philosophy and practices.
  • Lead underwriting specific small change and projects where required
  • Understanding of complaint handling process, endeavour to resolve any complaints on line.
  • Willingly share knowledge with colleagues and adjust approach to work effectively with others.
  • Support and deliver training to others as appropriate
  • Contribute to requirements to ensure business continuity
  • Contribute to the effective management of underwriting costs including medical fees and seek and communicate opportunities to reduce costs.
  • Operate in such a way as to minimise and alleviate reputational and financial risk to both Serco and Aegon.
  • Manage and support internal/external stakeholders to continuously enhance service delivery.
  • Operate within defined authority levels - £1m Life Protection at +250% and £500k CI/TPD + 100% and £20k PA Income Protection.
  • Provide input into process changes and required training for all aspects of the departments remit.
  • Positively contribute to and participate in projects affecting the Department when required.
  • Abide by all regulatory and compliance requirements in carrying out the requirements of the role, informing stakeholders where relevant e.g. Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
