Senior Electrical Design Engineer (Marine) – Permanent – Portsmouth – £40,000 – £46,500

The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will be supporting new build, development, and post design projects within a well-established maritime company in Portsmouth.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead minor electrical engineering projects from requirements definition through to delivery
• Provide sound estimates for engineering work carried out
• Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings, for a wide range of products from small components to whole vessel systems. Produce drawings in accordance with BS8888 Engineering Drawing standards
• Carry out small craft electrical systems design tasks
• Implement design changes and provide post-delivery support and resolve obsolescence issues
• Conducting all activities in a professional manner delivering design solutions to agreed time, cost and quality to meet project or business milestones
• Drafting, vetting, and editing technical reports to ensure that technical findings can be successfully communicated with recipients
• Participation in the preparation and submission of technical proposals and tenders.

Experience required:

• Marine electrical engineering experience
• 2D drafting (AutoCAD or similar) for production and manufacturing
• Small Craft electrical systems and the relevant design standards (MCA, ISO 10133, ISO 13297 etc.)

Desirable:

• Familiar with Marine equipment manufacturers
• 3D modelling experience or a willingness to learn
• Demonstrable knowledge of CANBUS protocols for engines and navigation equipment and knowledge of commonly used protocols on vehicles, ideally marine small craft
• Programming experience with VB, C++ and PLC systems
• Qualified to BEng degree level or HND/HNC with relevant design experience; in marine engineering, small craft design marine technology or small craft electrical systems; or equivalent level of experience.
