Principle/Managing Naval Architect (Submarines)- Permanent- Bath (main site)- Competitive Salary

Navis Consulting have an opportunity for an individual with a passion for design with acute detail and to develop ideas into the defense sector. This role is aimed at an individual wanting to develop further in their career and grow their skill set working on design tasks for a range of submarine projects solving engineering challenges. You will become a multi-skilled marine designer covering all aspects across the life cycle of submarines for UK and international customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support design changes and surveys
  • 3D modelling experience
  • Naval Architectural calculations to support concept design
  • Structural analysis using both hand calculations and finite element analysis
  • Experience in Paramarine® Naval Architecture software for stability assessments
  • Using in house tools and Computational Fluid Dynamics to complete Hydrodynamic assessments
  • Engineering assessments
  • Independent technical assurance of new submarine designs

Experience required:

  • An HNC/HND/Foundation Degree or Bachelors/Masters degree or postgraduate qualification in Naval Architecture or similar subject
  • Practical and relevant experience of conventional or nuclear submarine Naval Architecture
  • Chartered Engineer status with a recognized professional body or demonstrable route to achieve this
  • Experience in liaising with customers to understand requirements and to produce statements or work/proposals to deliver an innovative solution
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead technical projects to time, cost and quality through high organizational skills
  • Experience of technical governance approaches and checking certification
  • Flexibility to be deployed on a range of projects and customer sites.
  • Project management experience of leading a line of less experienced members of staff offering support to help with their professional development
