Senior CFD Specialist (Classification) – Permanent - Southampton/Hybrid – Highly Competitive

A leading Classification Society is recruiting for a Senior CFD (Computational fluid dynamics) Specialist to join the Technical Investigation Department (TID) team in Southampton. This role will benefit from hybrid working (two days in the office).

The Company is looking to recruit a senior CFD (Computational fluid dynamics) specialist with a marine background. The successful candidate will provide specialist consultancy services to the marine industry, either as an individual or as part of a larger team. This role will support the Company’s growing services around ship performance, data analysis and design support.

Duties will include;

  • Carry out project work using principally CFD, data analysis tools, and other marine numerical modelling tools to draw conclusions in areas such as ship performance and technical investigations
  • Produce deliverables to defined scopes of work including high quality technical reports according to established procedures, on time and within budget.
  • Review reports and results to be delivered to clients according to established procedures. Also, review other employee’s work as requested.
  • Undertake project management and administration according to established procedures, with emphasis on quality, timing and cost.
  • Support TID’s Naval Architecture, Risk, and Technical & Failure Investigation teams on an ‘as required’ basis, as defined by TID management
  • Produce proposals and define required work to satisfy client’s expectations. Ensure consistency of proposals to clients according to established procedures.
  • Identify needs for further work and pursue opportunities for increased scope of work and be able to present clients with a full range of services offered.
  • Maintain and develop business network within key contacts (clients, universities, institutions, suppliers, competitors, etc.).
  • Coaching of less experienced colleagues and act as a mentor to colleagues as agreed with line manager.
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.

The successful individual will have proven ability in applying CFD and data analysis software tools in the shipping industry to deliver technical solutions to clients and in the technical domains of hydrodynamics, naval architecture and fluid structure interaction.

You will be proficient with data analysis and programming languages (e.g. Python, Java, or C) and working knowledge of Linux and CAD packages (e.g. Rhino 3D).

You will have a Degree (or equivalent) in a related subject. Post graduate degree in engineering (MSc, MEng, or PhD) is not required but would be an asset

You will have proven ability in the Project Management process, gained through experience, involving complex projects and stakeholder relationships, have an excellent command of the English language and be an excellent communicator.
