This position is based in Southampton and travel within the area is to be expected with occasional travel around the UK and Europe.

Key responsibilities

Your role will cover the Southampton operation providing marine operational expertise to ensure all vessels and crew meet their safety, environmental and operational requirements. Supporting the Port Manager with the Cluster strategy ensuring the successful management of the port P&L and strong relationships with external and internal stakeholder e.g. customers, agencies, port authorities and functional teams.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Ensure the highest level of safety and quality standards are being met according to our safety management system and that all employees work to achieve an interdependent safety culture.
  • Build relations to crews and union representatives to nurture and implement Culture.
  • Assist in the management of the marine operations ensuring that obligations for availability of expertise, equipment and personnel are met at all times in order to maintain customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
  • Provide operational support to the port management teams and crew in order to maintain efficient towage operations. Assist in all areas of the operations team and take duties on a rota’ d basis as part of the operations team. Will be the go-to person in case the Port Manager is on holiday
  • Assist in the coordination of training and development support and provide regulatory expertise ensuring that marine (deck and engine) personnel meet national requirements with respect to certification and training.
  • Work with the Technical Engineering team to ensure safe and effective transfer of vessels between ports and associated familiarisation of personnel to vessels.
  • Maintain all crew records including the management of timesheets for processing by payroll including the input and submission of payroll ensuring crew are correctly paid.
  • Processing of operational invoices, including entering details into HELM, ensuring sales invoices are generated timely.
  • Have a broad understanding of the ports commercial situation and contracts assisting the Port Manager in developing and nurture enduring relationships with key stakeholders/influencers in the port including Port Management/local government bodies.
  • Ensure the continuous reliability of the vessel fleet, including Maintenance & Repair, Classification Requirements, proper branding, etc.
  • Continually seek out new and better ways to operate our business.

To be successful, you need to demonstrate:

  • An extensive background in the maritime industry with capability to communicate effectively with Port Authorities and industry groups.
  • Excellent collaboration and influencing/negotiation skills
  • Familiarity with Maritime Rules, Regulations, Codes and Guidelines; ISM Code and ISPS requirement’s and class.
  • Shoreside marine, technical and training experience required, particularly with regard to regulations and legislation, including knowledge of Manila amendments

A valid UK Driving License is essential for this role.
