Public Health Officer (Cruise) – Worldwide

Navis Consulting are currently looking for a Public Health Officer for one of our prestigious cruise ship clients. The role of the Public Health Officer is the highest authority in the essential process of maintaining health and safety standards

Essential Functions

• A Public Health Officer’s (PHO) primary function is the training, oversight, implementation, and verification of compliance as it relates to Public Health and Safety procedures and application.
• Work closely with the Chief Engineer, Staff Captain, Senior Doctor, General Manager and other responsible Officers to ensure that all public health policies and procedures are implemented, and related documentation are accurately maintained.
• Implement company policy and port state regulations that secure and ensure health and safety of the vessel, crew and guests Identify and investigate health issues and health hazards.
• Oversee the full implementation of SMS/PH/P011 Outbreak Prevention and Response Plan (OPRP).
• Provide training and guidance to all crew and Officers in relation to OPRP.
• Maintain a copy of the most recent microbiologic report from each port the vessel bunkers potable water.
• Conduct onboard testing of the portable water system to analyze for the presents of Escherichia coli (E. Coli).

Qualification, Education AND Attributes

• Advanced knowledge of Public Health regulations and international laws is required.
• Basic knowledge and skill related to methods of epidemiology, disease prevention, environmental health, health promotion, and behavioral change are preferred.
• Advanced level of English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required.
• Bachelors degree or foreign equivalent in public health, public administration, health administration is required. Masters degree or foreign equivalent is preferred.
