Ship Structures Specialist (Lloyd’s Register) – Permanent – Southampton – Highly Competitive 

ARM is delighted to be partnering with Lloyd's Register to support the Marine & Offshore sector with current and upcoming recruitment projects.

An opportunity has arisen for a Ship Structures Specialist working in the Marine & Offshore Structures team to be based in Southampton (other locations may be considered dependent on candidates’ suitability for the role).

As part of a small and dedicated team, you will be principally working on existing ship modifications and approval of loading instruments, container securing arrangement/software and anchors. Occasional involvement in new construction projects is also possible. Your work will involve supporting local and global clients and surveyors by undertaking design appraisal and support and answering a wide range of complex technical queries.  

Duties will include;

  • Working as a member of the Marine & Offshore Structures team carrying out design appraisal and consultancy against a range of Class Rules and statutory codes. You will be principally working with merchant ships but there will be opportunities to be involved with other ship types and offshore projects in line with business needs.
  • In undertaking the technical role, the successful candidate will be required to take assess structural problems through direct calculations and application of LR’s Rules and Regulations and other International standards and codes.
  • Coaching other employees, as appropriate, to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • Providing specialist technical advice to internal and external clients globally at a senior level, which will include designers, shipyards and other LR surveyors and specialists.
  • Contributing to Rule Development Projects and Proposals to ensure Rules remain up to date and in line with the latest industry innovations.
  • Contributing to the bid and win processes for new projects by accurately estimating time requirements and developing scopes of work.
  • Producing the required deliverables within the agreed broad parameters in a defined format and review other employees work, where requested.
  • Actively seeking to ensure client satisfaction and to generate new opportunities with existing clients.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working in a Ship Structural Design position and have experience of the application of Class Rules to the design and construction of merchant ships. Experience in application of Class Rules to offshore or large naval auxiliaries is advantageous.

The candidate should have a degree (or equivalent) in Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering

Proficiency in the English Language (written and oral) commensurate with the work and an ability to write detailed technical reports and design appraisal documents.
