Coxswain/Crewman (Port Vessels) – UK

Navis Consulting are recruiting on behalf of a client for a Coxswain/Crewman. The Coxswain/Crewman will operate the pilot boats and work boat in a safe and efficient manner, following the requirements of the port’s VSM code as and where applicable and Undertake routine planned and reactive maintenance, including safety checks of the craft and equipment.

Duties

  • Emergency situations involving lifesaving or protection of the environment (property protection on a case-by-case basis)
  • Commercial vessel mooring support (Running Lines)
  • Pilot deployment or collection
  • To support DHB tug requirements when a 4th crewman is required, to include training in all routine tug operations and undertaking appropriate drills familiarisation with all tug emergency exercises.
  • Port inspection and cleaning duties, particularly routine cleaning of designated steps and ladders
  • Routine patrols
  • Craft maintenance. Principally involving minor repairs, painting, cleaning, fendering and minor engineering duties, all within the competence of the post holder.
  • To ensure the craft’s safety and operational checks are carried out and recorded

Skills/Education

  • Provable small boat handling capability and experience, e.g. power boat level 2 qualification
  • Awareness of maritime regulations and codes of practice
  • MCA/RYA Yacht Master Coastal (Power), commercially endorsed
  • Certificate of proficiency as an EDH or AB
  • Basic STCW qualifications: EFA, FP&FF, PST & PSSR
