Marine Superintendent (Ferries) – Contract – Shetlands – Competitive day rate

Due to increased workload and a number of exciting projects coming up, we are looking for a Marine Superintendent in the Shetlands for up to 1 year contract. Accommodation provided for the right candidate.

You will manage the Ferries operations team, providing a customer focussed efficient and effective delivery of services in accordance with the values, objectives, targets and statutory obligations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the delivery of Ferry Operation Services;
  • Manage the safe manning, equipment and operation of all vessels;
  • Manage the delivery of shore based resources and support;
  • Act as Designated Person, as required by section 4 of the ISM Code;
  • Lead the development, maintenance and monitoring of the Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Monitor and manage the operation of each vessel to meet safety, environmental and pollution standards and in accordance with mandatory rules and regulations;
  • Visit all vessels on a regular basis and liaise with the Masters and sea staff to ensure that their vessels are seaworthy in all respects

Experience Required:

  • Ideally hold a Master Mariner Unlimited license (Chief mate also considered)
  • Marine Superintendency OR Marine Management experience of operating and of command of sea-going vessels (preferably Ro-Pax or RoRo)
  • Experience of Implementing and/or managing Safety Management Systems subject to external audit
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver priorities
  • Experience of staff supervision
  • Must have right to live and work in the UK
