Ferry Manager – Permanent – Plymouth – Competitive package

The ferry provides a 24hr / 365 days a year service and is an essential transport link for people living in South East Cornwall.

As Ferry Manager you will have responsibility for both the engineering and operational aspects of the service with a primary role to provide a safe, reliable and efficient ferry service.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the safe reliable and efficient operation of the ferry service in line with health and safety and maritime legislation, and, conducting technical investigations and statutory reporting procedures
  • Effective and consistent management of operational and technical staff in line with organisational policies and procedures and local and national terms and conditions of employment
  • Monitor engineering and operational standards and investigate and implement operational and engineering improvements to increase ferry service effectiveness.
  • Maintain the vessels in class with classification society and meet all legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Preparation of tender documents ensuring compliance with tendering and financial procedures and effective contract management
  • Management of delegated budgets in accordance with Joint Committee policy and financial regulations

Experience Required:

  • Degree level qualification in Marine Engineering or other relevant discipline
  • Experience at a management or senior management level within engineering environments
  • Undertaking a similar role in a marine engineering or similar working environment involving overseeing technical repairs
  • Highly developed leadership skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Management of substantial budgets
  • Preparing technical and contractual specifications for engineering work, dealing with contractors and managing contracts efficiently and cost effectively
  • Must have the right to live and work in the UK
