Technical Superintendent (Ports) – Permanent – Kent – £50k – £55k plus benefits
This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the UK busiest ports as Technical Superintendent / Deputy DPA
It is an asset intense, fast pace operation facilitating the highest volumes of traffic and vessels of any ferry port in Europe.
The post holder is primarily responsible for the delivery of all Port Vessel engineering and technical maintenance; capital jobs, technical delivery and the associated services to internal and external customers, in order to deliver appropriate service levels on a lowest whole of life cost basis.
Responsibilities include:
- Technical expert within the field of marine engineering, an understanding of administration requirements of sea going vessels and additionally will achieve knowledge of the Board’s asset and management systems.
- Provide day to day technical support to the Port vessel Unit.
- Purchasing of all spares and consumables within agreed budgets for the Port vessels
- Work alongside Classification Societies and Flag State authorities to ensure the statutory requirements are met and that the vessels remain compliant.
- Planning and overseeing vessel refit and dry-dock works.
- Maintain sea going certification in order to sail as Chief Engineer on-board the Ports vessels, to provide occasional crew cover.
- Ensure that the Port Vessels ISM system remains valid, up to date and fit for purpose with regard to all areas of Technical management and applicable legislation.
Experience Required:
- Hold a valid Merchant Shipping STCW certificate III/2 Second Engineer unlimited with Chief Engineer
- Sea going marine engineering experience as a senior Engineering Officer on a variety of vessel types and machinery installations
- Experience of shipboard maintenance management systems
- Previous involvement in vessel dry-dock and refit periods
- Understanding of the rules and regulations applicable to the operation of sea going vessels
- Good understanding of the International Safety Management (ISM) system
- Good technical ability with a general background within mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems
