Job Description as Fabrication Supervisor with Stork:  

To provide supervision, monitoring and management of the relevant craft area personnel and to ensure that departmental output meets the schedule(s) required by both internal (Production Management) and external (customers) client requirements.

Tasks and Responsibilities as Fabrication Supervisor: 

Achieve the required output of departmental finished products in line with internal or external client requirements.  Finished products may entail fabricated structures for external client commissioning and finished goods materials for despatch or for stock.

  • Deploys appropriate manpower, skill sets, equipment and knowledge to facilitate achievement of the above.
  • Liaises with appropriate internal contacts and departments in order to consider appropriate and acceptable solutions to unforeseen conditions, material outages and variance to planned production schedules.
  • Manages departmental HSEQ performance and protocols in order to secure safe working environment for departmental employees and other parties within the area.

 To monitor materials, consumables, housekeeping, WIP, machines and equipment

  • Monitor and limit the wastage of materials, consumables and non-conforming product in order to maximise labour and materials utilisation.
  • Monitor housekeeping performance within the department in line with appropriate 5S/6S standards.
  • Monitor condition of internal department machines and equipment for service, maintenance/repair and calibration as appropriate.
  • Visual inspection of all materials and work in progress for adherence to company standards, safety regulation and client specification.

Manage & Develop People

  • To supervise and monitor on a daily basis the appropriate conduct and behaviours of all staff within scope of department (core employees, agency labour and apprentices).
  • To supervise, monitor and control daily work activities and personnel within the department.
  • To drive the relevant developmental needs of departmental employees and the business by undertaking robust and supportive appraisal meetings that accurately define individual and strategic goals. (Supervisors only)
  • Where necessary undertake investigative and disciplinary people activities in a professional and fair manner, treating employees with due respect but maintaining visibility of corporate standards and behaviours.
  • Co-ordinate and monitor sub-contractor personnel whilst on site in accordance with normal HSEQ requirements and relevant permit to work controls.

Maintain Technical Awareness 

  • Maintains continuous professional development activities to build and improve upon originating craft/Qualified by Experience and qualification. Charge-hand position seeks to acquire people management skill set in order to succeed into Supervisor role.
  • Identifies opportunities for equipment, machinery or process innovation and improvement.
  • Seeks to become involved in client commissioning or turn-key activities in order to develop mind-set of solutions provision rather than product offering.

Planning, Organising & Communicating

  • Plan personal time effectively in order to be able to demonstrate control and responsibility of both personnel and work activities in departmental area.
  • Match appropriate employee skill sets to relevant work within individual levels of skill, experience and expertise.
  • Plan and organise (via HR processes) for the upskilling of personnel to meet changing technology and client solutions. 
  • Carry out P&D review cycle in line with company procedures (Supervisors).

Specific Requirements for the Fabrication Supervisor:

Education

  • Good standard of general education with particular emphasis on literacy and numeracy.
  • Craft/Technician formal time served apprenticeship, or:-
  • Level 3 City & Guilds accreditation in relevant electrical/mechanical engineering discipline.
  • Ability to read drawings relevant to the department.

Experience

  • Engineering or industrial/manufacturing services background
  • Considerable relevant experience of mechanical or electrical disciplines and applications.
  • Ability to manage own and others time effectively in order to accomplish work projects within scope and budget.
  • Previous supervisory or 1st line report experience desirable.

  •  Undertakes reasonable ad-hoc or routine duties as directed by line manager.
