Deputy Harbour Master – Permanent – Kent – Competitive Package

This is a great opportunity to join one of the UK busiest ports as Deputy Harbour Master.

The primary objective for the post holder is to ensure that marine operations are conducted safely and are delivered to the standard set by and agreed with the Head of Marine & Harbour Master.

Responsibilities include:

• Manage the operation and delivery of Marine Operation Services, in line with Marine Department objectives and the Corporate Business Plan.
• Controlling and regulating Pilotage within the Port’s VTS jurisdiction and Competent Harbour Authority area
• Provide second pilotage cover, enabling flexibility in roster and reducing budget spend.
• Monitor training and STCW certification for all marine staff.
• Manage and develop the Port of Dover Marine Safety Management System.
• Investigate near misses, incidents, and dangerous occurrences.
• Provide support to the Marine Superintendent for day-to-day deck/marine issues and act as an expert in this field

Experience required:

• Previous marine management experience with sound knowledge of maritime legislation.
• Hold a valid MCA STCW II/2 Master Unlimited Certificate of Competence
• Hold UK Harbour Master Certificate or ability and willingness to study and undertake the learning to achieve qualification.
• Previous Pilotage and Pilotage Exemption (PEC) experience.
• Previous experience as Marine Manager, Superintendent, Harbour Master or Deputy.
• Knowledge of ISM and PMSC code.

The post holder will be a class one pilot and is expected to cover out of hours second pilot requirements, as well as leave, sickness and training cover when required.
