Ship Manager (Dredger) – Permanent – Kent, UK – Competitive

A leading Marine Aggregate business is currently recruiting for a Ship Manager to join the team in Kent.

Key responsibilities will include (but not limited to);

  • Managing and co-ordinating all aspects of the day-to-day technical operation of the Company’s vessel(s)
  • Acting as the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) and thus be on-call for emergency situations.
  • Managing the Repair & Maintenance budget to ensure that spend is in line with agreed parameters and continually seek ways of reducing running costs whilst maintaining vessel compliance.
  • Compiling specifications for docking and maintenance stops to ensure that the vessel remains seaworthy whilst working within budget constraints.
  • Maximising vessel efficiency by minimising breakdowns through good planned maintenance and developing a positive and effective working relationship with the Master and crew.
  • Assisting with crew welfare issues as and when required.

The successful individual will have sailed as a Chief Engineer, will have previous experience within a similar capacity onshore and have knowledge of small vessel operations.

You will have previous experience of managing dry-dock planning and refit work, be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the ISM Code and MLC and have knowledge of marine rules and regulations that apply to ships.

The ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate experience of managing health and safety, have a strong health and safety ethos and understand the importance of promoting and enhancing a strong health and safety culture.

Language Requirements

Good knowledge of the English language is required.

Certificates and Qualifications
