Purchasing Officer – Permanent – London – Competitive salary plus benefits

This is an excellent opportunity to join a reputable shipping company based in London

As Purchasing Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day activities involved in the timely and economic supply of materials and services required by the fleet.

Responsibilities include:

• Receiving sequentially numbered Requisitions from the Vessels and monitoring same to ensure that all Requisitions are received.
• Obtain competitive bids from and negotiating with Vendors, wherever possible. Submitting the Requisitions and Quotations to the responsible Superintendent for authorisation.
• Placing Purchase Orders with the selected Vendor/Contractor.
• Progress chasing to ensure that materials and services are delivered/executed in a timely fashion to meet the Vessel’s requirements.
• Arranging despatch of materials by Vendors or consolidated Freight Forwarders and monitoring consignments to ensure that the Consignee receives them.

Experience required:

• Purchasing experience in a shipping company
• Knowledge of ShipNET (desirable)
• Tanker experience (highly desirable)
• Strong negotiation skills
